I know what you’re thinking. Damn, Beth has some MAD Photoshop skills! Try to contain your excitement on that topic and focus on the underlying message.
That’s right. We’re having a baby! I’m baking my own little bun, and it’s due from the oven on or around October 26.
Pregnancy is difficult to hide when you’re a foodie – let alone a foodie with a food blog. Nausea and hormones have completely disrupted my normal culinary routine. Pre-pregnancy, I would do my grocery shopping on Saturday or Sunday and plan a week’s worth of menus to cook, eat and blog about. But once that stick showed a big ol’ plus sign, everything changed. Food aversions appeared out of nowhere! Coffee was one of the first things to go – I couldn’t stand the smell or the flavor, which was hugely disappointing to a former javaholic. Equally disgusting: most vegetables, most seafood, certain fruits, and – on the worst days – breakfast staples such as eggs and oatmeal. I’d have days where nothing sounded good to eat, and if anything sounded remotely appealing, I had to consume THAT FOOD and ONLY that food. As you can imagine, this resulted in some pretty interesting meals, ranging from tuna noodle casserole (made the old fashioned way – canned cream of mushroom soup and all) to chicken tenders and french fries from a less-than-gourmet chain restaurant (don’t ask). Of course, I’ve been concerned about nutrition and whether the baby is getting everything it needs. But in the first trimester, you eat what you can, when you can, and hope for the best.
Now that I’m officially in the second trimester, I feel almost as good as I did pre-baby. My appetite is back to normal, though the cravings and food aversions are still there. I have more energy. And for the first time in my life, I’m happy to see a puffy, protruding tummy. I’m amazed by my body and it’s capabilities, and I can’t to meet what will certainly be the best-fed baby in San Francisco.

I knew it, I knew it!!! I’m SO HAPPY FOR YOU. Congratulations. So exciting.
Believe me, the crappy food aversions will be gone in a few weeks and you’ll feel better than ever.
