There are 5 to 10 days per year when San Francisco temperatures rise into the high 80s/low 90s. Our homes are not air conditioned, so many of us feel a little freaked out by the sudden heat wave. When you come home from work at 5:30 p.m. and it’s 95 degrees inside your house, you can follow either of two philosophies: 1) stay inside, complain about the heat and attempt to cook dinner without turning on your oven; or 2) grab your cute husband and cute dog and head to Crissy Field to make the best of a bad situation. San Francisco is even more beautiful on a warm, sunny evening.
As for dinner…extreme heat is the one thing that kills my normally voracious appetite. Nothing sounded remotely appealing, so we headed to our favorite fro-yo place for a somewhat-irresponsible-yet-totally-satisfying frozen meal. Here, too, we found ourselves in the face of two diverging philosophies. When it comes to fro-yo, you can be super boring.
(Dulce de Leche and Original Tart yogurt topped with a smattering of Reese’s Pieces)
Or super awesome.
(Cake Batter and Chocolate yogurt topped with rainbow sprinkles, Cap’n Crunch, Reese’s Cups, Kit Kat, strawberries)
I’ll let you decide which philosophy reigns supreme.

You are alive during the decline of a civilization.
super awesome all the way girl!
p.s. i LOVE that first shot…you look so amazing with your beautiful baby belly! well, you always look amazing, but what a miracle
We followed a similar trajectory last night, only with two small kids to feed I felt too irresponsible to skip dinner entirely. So we took them to an air conditioned diner down the street and let them eat pancakes and sausages for dinner before walking over to the closest fro-yo shop to pile on the sugar. And it was STILL 90+ degrees in our house when we got home well past bedtime for the kids. Thank God there’s no humidity our here…
You can see the bottom of the container on that first froyo–blasphemy! The 2nd pictured fro is the right philosophy!
To be clear, my fro-yo was a dessert (had a sandwich for dinner), and Beth’s was her actual meal. You know, just to be clear.
Hey I just found your blog through Jenna’s blog. I’m a Bay blogger too and totally ate ice cream for dinner two days in a row (shhhh). The past week I’ve had to stay outside until I’m ready to admit defeat and go to sleep.
My philosophy about frozen yogurt is: I want all of it.
No excuse, Corey.
I pick going outside!!! It’s over 95 degrees over 95 percent of the summer here in the midwest but I prefer being outside anyway….even though everyone thinks I’m a total crazy person.
No other way to spend a hot day!
My husband thinks it’s plain WRONG to eat dessert for dinner (or dinner for breakfast for that matter). Boo! I’m with you. Fro-yo all the way, and PILE on the toppings!
Super awesome for sure! Beautiful blog. I’m more of an ice-cream girl myself versus the fro-yo though…it tastes “faker” to me?…or maybe I just haven’t tried the real Californian stuff (and I haven’t..and probably never will unless I win the Lotto, get out of debt, and quit my job)…y’know just saying
p.s Just had to see who the Beth T was behind those cookies at Jenna’s!
